Last Night

My husband and I spent Memorial Day in the mountains of Ashe County, North Carolina.  We ate ribs, cole slaw, and corn on the cob.  The weather was perfect as the sun set around 9:30 with a half moon already moving across the sky.  The sky was bright blue with clouds here and there during the day.  As the night progressed by 10:30 a full blanket of clouds had covered our sky and it was time to go to bed anyway.

With a child's delight I await one of summer's beautiful, peaceful events:  the lightning bugs.  Last night we took our seats on the deck and watched the lightning bugs.  In the dark you could not tell where the sky ended and the land began.  The stars, the moon, and the lightning bugs twinkled and shone for hours.  Here is a photo from Google images.  It resembles one of many trees on our property and the light show that we witnessed last night.  We could see lights blinking near and far, high and low; in the sky, in the trees, and near the ground.  It was an enchanting evening.
