Family

Yesterday my husband and I had the opportunity to see all but one of his brothers and his sister (and 2 of 4 spouses).  It had been almost two years since we had all been together.  We reside in different states:  NY, NC, GA, VA.  We attended the funeral of my husband's uncle on a beautiful North Carolina spring day.  At the cemetery after the service we stood on a hillside in the late afternoon sun; cherry trees blooming around us.  As beautiful as was the day, so the time together was good.  After the graveside we expressed our sympathies and love to our aunt, gave hugs to the cousins, and spent an hour standing in the sun catching up with them.  Then we, our side of the family, went to a local restuarant for a meal.  What a pleasant time we had.  My husband and I talked about it on the drive home. It felt good to be with family.  I am reminded of a psalm.

Psalm 133      A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. A psalm of David.
1 How wonderful and pleasant it is
when brothers [family lives] live together in harmony!
2 For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil
that was poured over Aaron’s head,
that ran down his beard
and onto the border of his robe.
3 Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon
that falls on the mountains of Zion.
And there the LORD has pronounced his blessing,
even life everlasting.
